It’s been 40 years since Diahann Carroll became the first black actress to have a TV show featured around her character Julia. The 73-year-old Golden Globe winning actress hasn’t slowed down whether it’s singing or acting, but don’t expect to see Ms. Carroll in any type of reality show like Dancing with the Stars. Her hope is to find another role similar to her 1974 performance in Claudine that earned her an Academy Award nomination. In the meantime, Carroll has released her new memoirs The Legs Are The Last To Go that share all of the trials and tribulations of her life.

Whoopi Goldberg has won every award an actress can possibly accept. The Oscar winning Ghost actress has gotten comfy in the chair as the moderator for the ABC talk show The View, but it doesn’t mean we won’t see her on the big screen again if the right thing comes along. She denies there are any problems at The View behind the scenes and that the public shouldn’t believe everything they read. But speaking of literature, Ms. Goldberg hopes you read her new children’s book Sugar Plum Ballerinas to your children or that they read it themselves. It’s the story of a young girl who is forced into everything ballerina by her mother when she dreams of being something else.

The Express is the ultimate role for Rob Brown. In 2000, the 24-year-old actor won the lead role across from veteran actor Sean Connery in Finding Forester. The movie received positive reviews, but Connery told the young actor to get an education. Brown stayed in Brooklyn, got that college education, but has continued to land movie roles along the way. The role of the first black Heisman Trophy winner Ernie Davis could only be topped by Michael Jordan for him. He’s still surprised he’s acting today.

This fall he has two movies coming out in the span of two weeks as he continues to grow as a supporting actor.

KeKe Palmer is the latest teenage star on the rise. She’s already stared as a lead role alongside Angela Bassett and Laurence Fishburne in Akeelah & The Bee and played a supporting role alongside Samuel L. Jackson in the Cleaner.  Besides the acting, she also can sing, but last year she had a public battle with her label about the songs that were way too mature for the 14-year-old to sing. She also has her own Nickelodeon TV show starting this fall. In an age where Miley Cyrus has been criticized for her image and Jamie Lynn Spears had a child at 16, KeKe Palmer wants to be a role model and sing about the songs that relate to her. She’s not in a rush to be pushed as this older sexy girl.  Palmer heads back to the big screen this coming weekend staring with Ice Cube as the first girl to play football in the Pop Warner League in The Longshots.

In an era where fighters come and go, Randy Couture has stayed through it all. The 45-year-old MMA legend is taking his status to the acting realm now staring in The Scorpion King 2 playing Sargon and replacing Dwayne Johnson in that role. The former heavyweight and lightweight champion hopes to have at least one more fight, but it has been delayed by a current lawsuit with the UFC, which is the promotion that made him what he is today. Even with a lawsuit currently on the table, the nickname The Natural still suits him well. You won’t find a guy that has more respect for this cult sport that is on the rise.

It was an afternoon last week and the latest earthquake had just hit California, but it didn’t seem to bother the 91-year-old actor who is on the verge of having appeared in 200 movies. He actually laughed about the whole thing. In 1955, Ernest Borgnine won the Oscar for best actor in Marty. Today more than 50 years later, he finally has penned his memoirs titled Ernie. Whether it was the hit TV show McHale’s Navy, From Here To Eternity with Frank Sinatra, or the original Poseidon Adventures, Borgnine has entertained millions. He is one of the last actors left from the beginning era of Hollywood where it was less about the money, the fame, and more about the work.
